Session 4: Dialogical Preaching

This session will examine in greater detail the contemporary trend of dialogical preaching. Pastors will consider the theology that guides this style of preaching and then examine a wide variety of ways in which dialogical preaching can foster a more vibrant ministry of the word in a congregation.

This session will examine in greater detail the contemporary trend of narrative preaching. We will consider the development of a storied sermon moving from the art of reading the stories of Scripture to the art of preaching them.

Session 1: An Overview of Recent Trends in Preaching

This session will offer an overview of the varied practices of contemporary preaching: confessional preaching; kerygmatic preaching; transformational preaching; and dialogical preaching. Using a sample text, preachers will see what a sermon would look like in each of four different types of preaching and consider both the values and the challenges each type poses for the preacher.
